Why GlobalLink Web?
GlobalLink Web Simplifies Website Localization.
Maintaining One Website for Multiple Languages
When new content is added to the origin site, such as a new product, an advertisement, or a content change, GlobalLink Web runs through its Localization Cycle. The page with the latest content is built, generating the same page but with localized equivalents. GlobalLink Web syncs all the content on the origin site with the target languages so that any change to the origin site will cascade into all target languages. Only the origin site needs maintenance, and GlobalLink Web will take care of the rest.
Segmentation & Leverage
GlobalLink Web segments1 text into syntactic units that are translated and stored once in the TM. All segments are leveraged so that repeated parts are pulled from the TM and reused, and no additional translation is required. Segmentation and leverage reduce the number of translations, thereby reducing the cost. The TM grows as the content is modified. The more that GlobalLink Web translates the site, the more TM leverage is applied.
In the example below, GlobalLink Web parses the first section of text into two segments, which are leveraged in the TM and translated. When it lifts the second section from the site, it is segmented and matched with the leveraged segments already in the TM, and no additional translation is necessary.
Sections of Text |
---|
The customer bought their favorite item. They enjoyed their purchase. |
They enjoyed their purchase. The customer bought their favorite item. |
Leveraged Segments |

The customer bought their favorite item. |
They enjoyed their purchase. |
Tokenization
GlobalLink Web also employs tokenization to minimize repetitive translation and bleeding2. Tokenization identifies and generalizes common patterns within the text to render the translation applicable in multiple variants of similar phrases. These features eliminate re-translations of identical phrases except for number values or names specific to you.
Raw Phrase | Tokenized Variant |
---|---|
You have 5 items in your cart. | You have {{n}} items in your cart. |
Welcome, John Smith! | Welcome, {{name}}! |
In the additional examples provided below, you can see that the numbers are generalized to allow the exact translation to be applied, regardless of the number token value. GlobalLink Web utilizes tokenization to ensure the translation matches the content and internal variables, such as user-specific data. The content of these tokens is not present in the TM, only the type of value, such as a number or name. Tokenization is automatic with numbers delimited by space, non-breaking space, or adjacent to currency symbols.
Raw Phrase | Tokenized Variant |
Welcome, John Smith! | Welcome, {{name}}! |
Your driver’s license: H5739006 | Your driver’s license: {{alphanumeric}} |
On page 5 of 15. | On page {{n}} of {{n}}. |
Subtotal: $15.50 | Subtotal: ${{n}} |
There are 1 000 varieties. | There are {{n}} varieties. |
GlobalLink Web does not tokenize alphanumeric combinations by default. The source content could have typos or need more space, leading to non-localized text in the target language.
Raw Phrase | Not Tokenized |
SKU: AB1B7F0909 | SKU: AB1B7F0909 |
On page 5of15. | On page 5of15. |
You have 15items in your cart. | You have 15items in your cart. |
If tokenization is required in the examples above, we must modify the source text to include proper spacing.
Lastly, the numeral “1” is also never tokenized due to the linguistic differences between singular vs. plural values.
GlobalLink Web OPE Tool
OnPage Editor (OPE) is an extension that can be Downloaded From the Chrome Store. After creating a project in the UI, you will have access to work on edits within your browser. OPE allows defined Subject Matter Experts to make edits to translations, switch between targets published for that project, and add translations. You can also set filters on particular terms to work on specific components. Please visit the OnPage Editor support articles for more detailed information about OPE.
Asset Localization
If your origin website has images with embedded text or downloadable PDFs, Word, or CSV documents, GlobalLink Web cannot directly translate these non-HTML assets. To deliver localized versions of these assets on your translated website, the following process applies:
- GlobalLink Web can spider your website to collect asset URLs for which source files should be provided.
- The assets are translated offline and delivered back to be hosted in a language-specific directory.
- GlobalLink Web will rewrite the links on the target websites to point to the localized versions.
1 Segments - Syntactic units of text, ranging from one word to a sentence in length.
2 Bleeding - Untranslated content appearing on a page that should be localized.
