Using OPE
The drawer
Once the OPE plugin is activated, bring up the OPE drawer by clicking on the page's blue icon at the bottom right-hand side. The OPE drawer can also be opened by right-clicking on any text on the page to edit.
All OnPage Edits are managed within the OPE drawer. To edit a page, move from each text Block by clicking "Previous" or "Next," using the left/right arrows on the keyboard or right-clicking directly on the desired text.
How Blocks of Text are Organized
Blocks organize text segments, chunks of text picked up for translation. The blocks are then broken down into segments, usually based on complete sentences ending with a period. Here is an example of a block that is broken into two segments:
Each segment in the Block appears in a box in the OPE drawer. Based on when it appears, each segment is given a number. The OPE drawer displays a message if there is more than one segment in the Block.
Editing by Target Language
Click on the green drop-down menu on the right side of the OPE drawer to select which language to edit. The page will refresh after you switch languages.
Making Edits in the Target Text Box
The OPE drawer contains two text boxes: the "Source" box on the left and the "Target" box on the right. The Source box displays the site's original language text.
The Target box displays the translated Segment text. This is where users can type and edit translations for the page. Right-click over the text on the page to edit that Block of text. These selected blocks of text will be highlighted in dark blue on the page.
Once a translation is saved, the status of the segment will be marked:
NOTE: Edits marked “IN PROGRESS” are only visible in OPE. They are not visible on the page until requested to be pushed “LIVE”. This ensures that translations can be altered, checked, and approved before appearing on the site.
Click the transfer icon to copy over the Source text to the Target box. This helps transfer the original, untranslated text and maintains tags and tokens. Edits can still be made on some or all of the Segments after transferring the Source text.
Saving Translation Edits
Once edits are complete, remember to save edits by clicking the "Save Translations" icon to the right of the Target box.
The Target box shows the translation's status and the date of the last edit, along with the initials of the person who made the change.
Differentiating between Machine Translation (MT) and OPE Edits
If Machine Translation (MT) is a Translation Method, the segment will be labeled "Machine Translation." This indicates that no OPE edits have been made on that segment.
